Valley Park Radio is a small charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers providing a hospital radio service to the Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent. The Darent Valley Hospital opened in 1990 just as the former general hospital in Dartford - Joyce Green Hospital - closed. Valley Park has been an integral part of the hospital since then.
Valley Park Radio has won numerous national awards both for its programme and by individual presenters.
Although run by volunteers, we aim to provide as professional service as we can.
"Music helps – during the times I’ve been really ill, I’ve listened to a lot of music and I find music incredibly therapeutic. There were days particularly when I was having the radiotherapy treatment and when I felt really down, and it’d give me a little bit of a lift and a buzz inside"
Russell Watson explaining how music helped him through illness, when chatting to Ken Bruce on 10 Dec 2010:
Valley Park Radio is a member of The Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), which is the national charity that supports and promotes Hospital Broadcasting in the UK.
